MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office

Theft by Deception

Deputies were dispatched to a North Columbia Street car dealership Sept. 25 around 11 a.m. in reference to a fraudulent check. The dealership owner reported that a woman gave them a fraudulent check for $2,480 in exchange for a vehicle. The woman claimed she was a shuttle driver from the dealership’s Macon office. When running the check and contacting the office, the owner discovered that the check was fraudulent and there was no one by that name employed as a shuttle driver in Macon.

Upon driving up to his residence, the man saw three people standing on the roof of his home. When they noticed his car, they jumped off the roof and ran into the woods in the back of the house. He discovered that a ladder from his shed was used to gain access to the roof.
