While participating in a safety/sobriety license check in the area of Barrows Ferry Road Aug. 27, an officer observed a vehicle approaching the check point that was having trouble staying within its lane. When he stepped up to the driver's door, he could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the car. While asking for the driver's licenses and proof of insurance, the officer noticed an open can sitting by the passenger that appeared to be a beer can. He also noticed that the driver's eyes were blood shot and his speech was slurred. The driver registered a .115 on the Also-sensor test that was administered and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Theft by Shoplifting

A Wal-Mart loss prevention personnel reported the theft of merchandise from the store by a female Aug. 27 at approximately 3:17 p.m. The female was seen in the men's clothing section with a balled up t-shirt in her hand. She then went to the fabric section of the store and concealed the t-shirt in her purse. After trying to leave the store through the grocery section, the female was stopped at the last point of sale.

Simple Battery

An officer was dispatched to an Earnest Byner St. residence Aug. 28 in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the victim who stated that a verbal altercation inside the residence led to a man throwing a full beer can at her. The can struck her leg. After throwing the beer can, the man fled the scene on foot.

Theft by Shoplifting

A Wal-Mart loss prevention employee reported the theft of merchandise from the store by a man Aug. 29. The man was seen taking five men's personal hygiene items from the store and concealing them in a Wal-Mart shopping bag.
