MILLEDGEVILLE — Williams Funeral Home and Crematory, located on North Jefferson Street is undergoing an expansion.

The construction project, once completed, will expand the funeral home chapel to better serve families of Baldwin County.

Owners Rick and Donna Williams decided to take on the project as a way to offer more to the residents of Milledgeville.

"We're trying to make our building more convenient for the families we're serving and expand our service area to better fit their circumstances," said Rick Williams.

Williams Funeral Home offers funeral, memorial and cremation services. Once completed, the new, expanded chapel will be able to hold two services simultaneously, allowing the funeral home to serve more families without being restricted by scheduling conflicts.

The expansion venture will also include a newly renovated reception area as well as drop off area to accommodate unpredictable weather conditions.

"To keep the families from getting wet during those bad weather days, we'll have a sheltered area built specifically for cars to drop of family memories at the front of the chapel and stay dry," said Larry Glover, funeral director.

It's estimated that renovations will be completed within a month's time.

In addition to the Milledgeville location, Williams Funeral Home & Crematory has locations in Gordon — Williams White Columns Funeral Home, 179 Milledgeville Road — and Eatonton, 306 N. Jefferson Ave.
