MILLEDGEVILLE — Since May, Milledgeville native Amber Simmons’ passion for all things beauty has transformed and pampered clients from head to toe at her very own salon. The space was formerly known as ExtraordiNailry Salon & Spa in downtown Milledgeville.

“Growing up as a little girl, I always had an interest for hair and nails; it’s something I always wanted to do,” she said Thursday after shampooing a client’s hair. “I worked in another local salon for 10 years before opening Hairbar. As women, whether we are hard working students, career women, mothers, sisters or friends, we all enjoy getting together and unwinding with our friends. It was those thoughts that brought me to thinking about Hair Bar —  a place to make a woman feel relaxed and beautiful.”

The two-story salon offers a wide range of hair services, facial waxing and a full-service nail salon, including manicures and pedicures, for women, men and children. Reservations can be made for groups of various social gatherings and parties to have a private salon experience.

“We specialize in color as well as blow outs. We offer blow out parties for groups where we can make blow outs last four to five days as opposed to what you can do at home,” Simmons said. “After we shampoo and condition hair, we section out the hair into small sections so the hair has more body, shine and it lasts longer; it’s a quick service with less maintenance on your hair.”

Salon manager Kelly Smith enjoys having new customers return for their hair and nail needs.

“I love our clients and the loyalty they have,” she said. “We have a number of college students who just continue returning because our location is so convenient where students don’t have to drive.”

Leanna Peters, a nail tech, has been with salon on and off for the past three years prior to it transforming into Hairbar.

“I love our staff, the cleanliness, being able to socialize with my clients and knowing I make them look and feel good,” she said before her next manicure appointment arrived Thursday. “We look forward to new faces everyday and we definitely appreciate customer loyalty.”

Located on West Hancock Street next to Velvet Elvis, Hairbar is in the midst of updating its brick facade with a new color scheme.

“We’re painting the outside in turquoise and gray,” Simmons said. “We are a modern twist on a beauty shop.”

Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, walk-ins are welcome and appointments can be made at flexible hours. Clients parking in the parking deck behind the salon have the convenience of entering through Hairbar’s back door. Clients receiving services at Hairbar can tag themselves at the salon on Facebook to receive 10 percent of nail services.

“We appreciate our loyal clients and the community’s support throughout the transition from ExtraordiNailry, and I’m thankful for such a loyal staff as well,” Simmons said. “Hopefully our clients leave here less stressed and certainly looking their best.”
