Herndon's Downtown looks to outfit the Southern gentlemen

MILLEDGEVILLE — Downtown Milledgeville continues blossoming into a culturally diverse place of commerce, entertainment and fashion. The recent opening of Herndon's Downtown fills a void in the strictly male clothing market.

Twenty-three-year-old Kyle Stevenson is the owner of the new store.

“Now that I've opened here, there are other businesses opening on this side of North Wayne. I'd love to get this side of downtown going,” Stevenson said. “If we can continue to build this street and increase traffic down here and catch up somewhat with the rest of the downtown area, we'd be doing well.”

Stevenson always appreciated the way his grandfather, Herndon Rowe, carried and dressed himself in a Southern way. The store name honors Rowe's style and legacy. T-shirts will be made in Rowe's silhouette, keeping the image of the store's inspiration alive.

Guy Harvey, Patagonia and Mountain Khakis encompass the other vendors soon to be available. Stevenson said a large group has inquired about custom tailored suits, which could be included in future retail expansion.

Check out Herndon's Downtown on Facebook and Twitter. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
