G & S Gas Services continues tradition of excellent service and reliability

MILLEDGEVILLE — One of the most important aspects of business success is reliability, which is exactly what G & S Gas Services Inc. has striven to provide to its customers.

For over 50 years, G & S Gas has continued to provide reliable service to customers in Milledgeville and surrounding counties.

Brothers Raleigh and Ray Garrett, along with friend Tommy Simmons, started the business in 1963 in hopes of providing the citizens of Milledgeville with propane gas.

G & S's main office began and is still located at 507 S. Wayne St. in Milledgeville, but has spread to seven surrounding counties since its creation, including Jones and Washington County.

As business grew, the owners enlisted the help of sons Larry Garrett and Darryl Simmons, who are now the primary owners of the store.

G & S has come a long way in its 51-year history, evolving the business into much more than simply providing propane gas.

Along with monitoring their customers' propane tanks, G & S also sells a full line of propane appliances, including propane home generators, gas logs, water heaters and more. G & S provides installation and repair services for these appliances, as well.

G & S also serves as a dealership for Snapper Lawn Mowers and power equipment. They feel that this helps business during the summer when propane services are not needed as frequently.

After having the business passed down to them, Garrett and Simmons have already made plans to continue G & S as a family business with the hiring of Garrett's son Raleigh, named after his grandfather.

Raleigh, who is also the director of the Georgia Propane and Gas Association and a recent graduate from the University of Georgia, is already off to a great start in the business with a bright future ahead.

“I think the original owners would be proud,” Larry said in reference to his father and uncle.

Garrett and Simmons have built relationships with their customers over the years that they believe are a major reason that G & S is just as successful as ever.

“We know our customers by name when they walk in the door,” Larry said.

“We even know their dog's name sometimes.”

It gives Garrett and Simmons confidence in their business when they see second and third generation family members of former customers who continue to use G & S for their propane needs.

This excellent customer service is also what earned them the Chamber of Commerce's 2002 Small Business of the Year award.

At the end of the day, Larry, Darryl and Raleigh are all thankful to be able to provide Milledgeville and surrounding counties with dependable service.

“When it comes down to it, our main goal is to be able to say 'yes' whenever we are asked if we have a certain product or service,” Raleigh said.

“We appreciate our customers' business and are honored to be serving the fine people of Milledgeville.”

G & S Gas Services Inc. is still located at their South Wayne Street address and can be contacted at 478-452-3625, or at info@gsgasinc.com.
