MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville taqueria Gringos is serving up one-of-a-kind tacos with its popular beers and variety of tequilas.
“Gringos offers a unique, laid back atmosphere that’s slightly edgy. This type of restaurant is fitting for people with busy lifestyles,” said Jason Medders, owner of Gringos, Aubri Lanes and Quiznos. “You don’t have to eat foods that are unhealthy, cheap and quick. Guests don’t have to sacrifice quality for price at Gringos; they get high-quality food that tastes good without it costing a lot of money.”
Located on West Hancock Street in the former downtown Quiznos location next to Amici, Gringos held its grand opening the weekend of the Deep Roots Festival in October.
“Quiznos just didn’t go over well in downtown at all. So I thought a taqueria was a good idea since it’s such a cool and fun thing going on right now,” Medders said. “Our grand opening went great. We offered a limited menu with either chicken or beef because we were training our staff. Now we change and flip our tacos with different meats.”
The menu consists of a range of its famous tacos, from barbecue pork, veggie bean, grilled chicken, ground beef and fried fish to lime shrimp, buffalo chicken, short rib and philly. Customers can choose a starter to kickoff their meal with chips, seasoned with special Gringos chip salt, dipped in fresh house salsa, guacamole or jalapeno queso.
“We recently added nachos to our menu that comes with queso cheese, cilantro sour cream, pico de gallo, house salsa and any type of meat. We also added a variety of quesadillas with our best selling one being the buffalo chicken quesadilla, which is made with fried chicken in buffalo sauce with black beans, corn and fresco cheese,” Medders said. “Our fish taco is very popular right now; it’s made with tilapia that’s lightly dusted in cornmeal and fried, and served with crispy fried jalapenos, coleslaw and jalapeno ranch sauce.”
