MILLEDGEVILLE — Macon native Marshall Butler began his career in the car industry in the early 1970s before expanding his car dealership business to Milledgeville in November 1988. After 25 years of helping customers with one of life’s biggest purchases, Butler Ford continues to strive to keep consumers safe and satisfied while in the driver’s seat.

“Without our customers we wouldn’t be here. Our job is to satisfy each and every customer; that’s our philosophy. We like to take care of our associates who in turn take good care of our customers,” said Marshall Butler, chair of the Butler Ford company. “We really like the Milledgeville market, which is growing with the college here. We’re very pleased to be part of this community.”

Atlanta Regional Manager of Ford and Lincoln Sales Tim Witt presented a plaque to the Butler family and representatives of the local store Tuesday to commemorate 25 years of success.

“The Ford company is a family company. Our biggest competitive advantage is our retail dealer network. In a small town like Milledgeville ... Butler represents the brand and their company,” Witt said. “I couldn’t be happier to be here. I appreciate everything they do for Ford and I look forward to a minimum of another 25 years.”

Butler Ford initially opened near downtown Milledgeville in the late 1980s before moving to its current location in 1990.

“My dad opened a Chevy store in Alma, Ga. in 1933, and I used to hang around the dealership growing up. The first store opened in Macon in 1970, and we had a desire to grow our business so we expanded from there,” Butler said. “I’m the second generation, and my sons Marsh and Morris are third generation, who are both co-presidents of the company.”

Butler Ford currently offers the largest rebate of the year with zero percent on most models up to 72 months.

“Ford trucks are the No. 1 trucks in the market with high ratings, safety features and good gas mileage,” said Brian Shepherd, general manager of the local store. “We offer low monthly payments and low interest rates for college graduates and military discounts. We have overstocked and certified pre-owned used cars.”

Located at 2631 N. Columbia St., Butler Ford is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. The service department is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“We service all makes and models and everything we do is always backed by the Butler name, integrity and price,” Shepherd said. “We’re also celebrating 25 years of giving back to the community. We look forward to continuing the tradition with the Butler family’s reputation to celebrate 50 years.”

The Butler family currently has nine stores in Georgia, including Macon, Columbus, Valdosta and Milledgeville, and one location in Beaufort, S.C. Various makes and models are available at select locations, including Volkswagen, Lexus, BMW, Toyota, Acura, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and Dodge.

“Each day you get to interact with different people and you get to help people buy one of their biggest and emotional purchases. It’s fun to be part of that and the excitement it creates,” Morris said. “The auto industry right now is continuing to improve, and I think Milledgeville has a lot of positives. We’re really proud to be serving the Milledgeville community.”
