A soldier has been charged with falsely reporting a crime after Columbus police said he made up a story about a drive-by shooting.
Police say the soldier, 22-year-old Anthony Handsford will appear in Muscogee County Recorder's Court on January 31st.
Police say they were dispatched to Handsford's home, where they found him with a gunshot wound to his left foot.
Handsford told police someone fired a gun at him while he was looking for his wallet in his car.
After investigating, police say the shooting was accidental and that Handsford was shot by a friend early that morning with his own pistol.
